Wash bags for scrubs for Wexham Park Hospital
| Lucy Barrett at 64 The Fairway, Burnham is co-ordinating a “Pillow slips into scrubs bag” endeavour. |
The purpose is to manufacture Wash bags with drawstrings into which nursing staff can put their used scrubs at the end of the day, take them home and put the bags unopened into their washing machines for a hot hygienic wash.
You can help either by passing unwanted pillow slips to her to be converted into wash bags or by sewing them yourselves at home if you have a sewing machine ..
There are videos available on YouTube showing how this can be done. One can be viewed at:
The finished bags should be roughly 24″ x 30″ .
Lucy followed one set of instructions that called for ribbons to be threaded through as drawstrings but when this ran out she used bias binding which frayed when test washed. All materials must be capable of standing up to repeated 60 degree C hot washes. Another alternative drawstring is to use the excess material trimmed from the top of the pillow slip, or alternatively cord could be used.
Lucy Barrett is happy to be the collection point for these scrubs bags and pillow slips at. :

A friend of Lucy’s is coordinating this exercise and is expecting a delivery of materials for making the actual scrubs. She will advise if additional assistance is needed for making up these as well after she has distributed material to those already volunteering to make them.
