Junction 5-6 weekend 27-30 September

The following has been received from the Highways Agency regarding upcoming closures of the M4. The first bridge demolition of the project will be taking place over the weekend of 27-30 September 2019 and as a result the motorway will be closed in both directions between junctions 5 to 6 from approximately 8pm on Friday 27 September until 6am on Monday 30 September.

Letter received from Peter Anusas, M4 Project Director

Dear Sir/Madam
M4 junctions 3 to 12 upgrade to smart motorway
We are writing to tell you about upcoming works relating to the M4 junctions 3 to 12 smart motorway upgrade. We are about to demolish Recreation Ground overbridge, a pedestrian bridge connecting Upton Court Road and the track to Upton Court Park, with the main road between Datchet and Slough.
The Recreation Ground overbridge currently only has three lanes on each side of the of the motorway beneath, which is not adequate for the new four lane running smart motorway, therefore a new wider bridge is required.
The demolition of Recreation Ground overbridge will take place over a weekend and will require the full closure of the M4 in both directions between junctions 5 and 6. This is currently planned to take place from 8pm Friday 27 September 2019 to 6am on Monday 30 September 2019. There are two contingency weekends planned in the event any unforeseen events or issues prevent the works taking place over the weekend of the 27 to 30 September 2019. These are: 8pm Friday 4 October to 6am on Monday 7 October 2019 or 8pm Friday 11 October 2019 to 6am Monday 14 October 2019.
We understand closures and diversions can be disruptive to your business, however this is imperative for the smart motorway works. There are carefully planned diversions during this weekend. You can find the relevant information and a map overleaf.
